Young Gaels encouraged to be global citizens 27/1/13
Catholic aid organisation SCIAF is encouraging young Gaels to become more aware of
poverty and injustice issues across the world.
A drive aimed to encourage people to become active global citizens sees the agency
launching a series of posters to reach out to youth in Gaelic-speaking schools.
The posters are in Gaelic and will be distributed to schools across Scotland where
Gaelic is used and taught.
It initiative is the first of SCIAF’s engagement with the Gaelic community using
the language.
SCIAF has recently brought Gaelic media spokespeople on board and will be producing
further resources including Gaelic pop-up stands for use at exhibitions and events.
A new Gaelic logo will also appear on the agency personal collection “wee boxes”
this Lent.
SCIAF’s Director, Patricia Chale, said: “Engaging young people across Scotland is
vital if we are to make hunger, poverty and injustice a thing of the past. This must
involve the wider community, including in areas where Gaelic is the main language.
“I hope the new posters will encourage more young people in our Gaelic-speaking communities
to become active global citizens and encourage others to get involved in supporting
SCIAF’s life-changing work.”
