Rev David Campbell, Free Presbyterian (FP) minister of North Tolsta, has accepted a call to the denomination’s large Edinburgh congregation.

Mr Campbell, 36, who hails from Struan, Skye, is widely regarded as the ablest and most forceful of the FP’s ministers.

He was ordained and inducted to Tolsta in April 2002. His wife, Elizabeth, is a daughter of Stornoway FP minister, Rev Dr James Tallach. They have five children, Mairi, Anna, Ross, Esther and Fraser.

The Edinburgh FP congregation has been vacant since the death of Rev Hugh Cartwright in September 2011.

Mr Campbell’s late grand-uncle, Rev. Donald Campbell, who was the father of noted judge Lord Campbell of Bracadale, was also FP minister of Edinburgh. He served for many years, from 1951 till his sudden death in 1983. He also went there from Lewis as he was briefly minister of Stornoway.
