Ipad 4 Gaelic lessons 12/1/13
A pupil in Sutherland is boosting her Gaelic language skills by using new technology to link into lessons at Sir E Scott school in Tarbert.
Erin Cook is the only S1 student taking Gaelic at Farr High School in North Sutherland.
Recently she joined classes at Sir E Scott for a week under a innovative project funded by Bòrd na Gàidhlig aimed at tackling the barriers young people in rural communities face when accessing Gaelic conversation outside of the classroom and providing a link to young people of a similar age.
Erin has received a new Ipad 4 to become a virtual student and join in Gaelic chat every week with her new Harris pals.
As well as giving her access to much needed Gaelic conversation it tackles the issue of social isolation felt by pupils when they are the only pupil in class.
Project Coordinator, Mary Cook said: “I wish to say a huge thank you for the support and welcome Erin received whilst visiting the school.
“Everyone was wonderful and I think Erin fit in too well as they asked if she could stay.”
