The island woman who died after a car crash on Lewis on Monday has been named locally as Karin Prior of Aird Uig.
Ms Prior, 50, died at Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway, where she was based as a children’s occupational therapist based, on Monday evening. She hailed from Canada and formerly lived in Reef.
She received a severe head injury after a Mini car and a BMW collided at Newmarket about two miles outside Stornoway at 3.15pm on Monday afternoon.

The pair were trapped inside the mangled wreckage of the Mini for about half an hour.
Two Stornoway fire crews used cutting equipment to remove its roof and they were treated by ambulance staff before being rushed to the accident and emergency department of the nearby Western Isles Hospital.
The female driver of the BMW got out of her vehicle unaided but has sustained a broken arm. It is thought she was spared more serious injuries because her vehicle’s airbags activated.
One of the first people on the scene said the Mini was so badly wrecked they “couldn’t believe there was anyone in that car. It was so mangled and squashed. It was awful to see.”
The accident blocked off the main Stornoway to Barvas road. Traffic was diverted

The main Newmarket road reopened around 8pm on Tuesday evening after Northern Constabulary’s specialist traffic collision team completed an examination of the scene.
