Police Scotland's festive drink and drug drive campaign is running until January.

PC Donald Sinclair from Stornoway Police Station said: “As we all look forward to celebrating this festive season with friends and family, we are urging motorists to help us keep the roads safe for everyone.

“We continue to see the minority of motorists put themselves and others at considerable risk by driving after consuming alcohol or drugs, despite repeated warning about these dangers.

“As well as breath tests, officers can also test salvia for the presence of drugs at the roadside.”

He added: “We all want to have safe Christmas and New Year.

“Having to knock on a door and tell someone their loved one has been killed because a driver made the selfish decision to get behind the wheel whilst under the influence is the worst part of our job.

“There are no words to describe the devastation caused by drink or drug driving and that why we are so passionate about what we do.

“If you are going out to enjoy the festivities, do the right thing, and get a taxi home.”
