CalMac ferries have issued a series of weather disruption alerts for Sunday as a
front moves in from the Atlantic.
Wind speeds will increase as the day progresses with a force eight gale due in the
afternoon. A severe gale may in experienced in places possibly touching storm 10
levels at times in the late afternoon or evening.
With gusts of nearly 60mph, many vessels will shelter in port until Monday while
others will tie up in the early afternoon.
MV Hebrides has drawn up an amended morning-only timetable in a bid to complete sailings
to Lochmaddy and Tarbert before the worst of the weather sets in. The afternoon
run between Skye and North Uist is cancelled with CalMac attempting to detour affected
traffic. The Harris leg from Uist is also cancelled but a sailing between Skye and
Tarbert is available late morning. Both inter-island ferries are liable to disruption
or cancellation at short notice.
The Castlebay - Oban service will not operate on Sunday. MV Isle of Lewis is operating
a one-off return sailing today (Saturday) for passengers who were able to travel
earlier.
MV Lord of the Isles today carried out the first Mallaig sailing today for months.
However, due to the adverse weather forecast, her service on Sunday is cancelled.
Stornoway - Ullapool sailings are also cancelled on Sunday while Monday’s timetable
is on yellow alert. Tomorrow evening’s freight run departing Stornoway faces potential
disruption.
The morning crossing on the Sound of Harris is expected to go-ahead but the afternoon
run is very much in doubt.
