Wind speeds will increase as the day progresses with a force eight gale due in the afternoon. A severe gale may in experienced in places possibly touching storm 10 levels at times in the late afternoon or evening.

MV Hebrides has drawn up an amended morning-only timetable in a bid to complete sailings to Lochmaddy and Tarbert before the worst of the weather sets in.  The afternoon run between Skye and North Uist is cancelled with CalMac attempting to detour affected traffic. The Harris leg from Uist is also cancelled but a sailing between Skye and Tarbert is available late morning.  Both inter-island ferries are liable to disruption or cancellation at short notice.

The Castlebay - Oban service will not operate on Sunday. MV Isle of Lewis is operating a one-off return sailing today (Saturday) for passengers who were able to travel earlier.

MV Lord of the Isles today carried out the first Mallaig sailing today for months. However, due to the adverse weather forecast, her service on Sunday is cancelled.

Stornoway - Ullapool sailings are also cancelled on Sunday while Monday’s timetable is on yellow alert.  Tomorrow evening’s freight run departing Stornoway faces potential disruption.

The morning crossing on the Sound of Harris is expected to go-ahead but the afternoon run is very much in doubt.
