Sirs,

I read the letter by Derek McPherson from the Fernlea Guest House in Stornoway, regarding the opening up to tourism in the islands in the coming weeks, with great dismay.

I am booked on CalMac to arrive in Stornoway on August 1. My self-catering apartment has been booked since my last visit there in August of last year.

I am well aware of the great danger the virus can bring to the islands. But I'm also aware that at some point the islands have to open to help with the economic recovery of the area.

Mr McPherson makes it quite plain, from his point of view, that visitors are not welcome in the islands at this time.

Before embarking on my annual visit to my homeland this summer I would welcome the views of other islanders as to whether we stay put at home for the summer or if we should come for our yearly visit.

We certainly don't want to visit if the great majority of islanders wish tourists to stay away. I would welcome any help you and your readers might offer regarding the quandary we find ourselves in.
