Western Isles ferry services face upheaval into Monday due to a series of Atlantic lows and weather fronts heading our way.

A southerly gale, severe gale levels in places, with rough seas on Friday will bring cancellations for many. Saturday is expected to be blustery while stormy conditions are anticipated for Sunday into Monday.

Due to adverse weather forecast, all remaining sailings on the Sound of Barra for Thursday are cancelled. Friday morning sailings are also cancelled. MV Loch Alainn will attempt a return crossing departing Barra at 12.30pm.

MV Isle of Mull is operating an amended schedule, setting off from Lochboisdale at 2pm. The vessel will steam via the Small Isles meaning passage time will be extended. A review will take place on Friday afternoon regarding sailings for Saturday. All sailings are liable to disruption or cancellation at short notice.

Service on the Sound of Harris route risks being off on Friday for the second day running. The only possibility of undertaking a crossing is in the afternoon but that depends on a suitable weather window. A last minute review will take place around 1pm.

MV Hebrides Friday’s service on the Skye triangle is suspended up to the late afternoon. Normal timetable will resume with the 4pm from Tarbert to Uig, weather permitting.

Due to forecast adverse weather conditions, Friday’s sailings on the combined Castlebay and Lochboisdale service are liable to disruption or cancellation at short notice. There will be a review this evening.

MV Loch Seaforth plans to wait out the severe gale in Ullapool harbour. If conditions ease she hopes to depart the mainland port at Friday teatime.
