Scottish Water is inviting Huisinis and Gobhaig residents to attend an information event about proposals to improve the security of the water supply for customers in the local area.
The £3.6 million project would see two existing small Water Treatment Works (WTW) serving the area replaced by a new treatment works and water storage tank built on the Huisinis road, west of the Gobhaig road junction.
It would also see around 6km of new pipeline laid to connect the water tank to the existing distribution networks in both communities, as well as provide a new intake structure on the existing loch.

The first will take place at Huisinis Gateway between 10.30am and 2.30pm; with the second being held at the North Harris Trust Office in Tarbert betweeen 4pm and 7pm.
Project manager Calum Scott said: “We will shortly be submitting a planning application to Comhairle nan Eilean Siar for the proposed new Water Treatment Works and the associated infrastructure, so this is a good opportunity for people to come along and find out more about the plans, as well as have a chat with us about any questions they might have.

“We recognise that this scheme represents a change from an earlier proposal to build a water main from Tarbert to Huisinis. We believe the new scheme is the right option to meet the current and future needs of our customers; and represents a substantial investment that continues to make use of existing good quality water resources in the local area.
“Our proposed investment also includes some additional capacity to enable further connections in the future, for both planned development and properties currently served by private water supplies.”
