Urras nan Tursachan is a charitable trust based in the Outer Hebrides. We work both to understand and protect our islands unique archaeological heritage, and to secure the cultural, social, environmental and economic value of that heritage for our community.
We are looking for new directors for both the trust, and our trading company, to help deliver an ambitious new vision for Urras nan Tursachan, and to support the continued development of the Calanais Visitor Centre, ensuring that it continues to provide the best possible experience for tourists, our community and our staff.
Directors will be asked to commit to a half day per month, in addition to regular attendance at monthly board meetings (which can be by telephone/video conference). And while roles are voluntary (expenses can be covered) they promise to be extremely rewarding for the right candidates, with the ability to affect meaningful, positive change to people living across the Outer Hebrides.
In particular, we are looking for candidates who can help us address our need for skills in the following areas:
- Legal expertise, particularly as it applies to the third sector, operation of a public facility, commercial law and land issues.
- Experience in people and/or HR management. Demonstrable experience of effective human resource management, with the skills and experience to ensure we get the best from our people, are legally compliant and operate in line with best practice
- Strong connections to, and the respect of the local communities we are part of
- Delivering social, and commercial value through public engagement and volunteering.
- The ability to speak, read & write Gaelic fluently.
- A track record in the procurement of significant capital funding within the third sector.
- Organisational planning at a strategic and operational level, within the private and/or third sectors.
- Experience of financial management, ideally from the third sector,
- Experience in the successful management and operation of significant catering or retail business, ideally with a tourism focus
- Respected academic expertise, and general experience and knowledge of archaeology, and/or built heritage within the Outer Hebrides, Scotland & the UK.
- Proven experience of effective marketing and public message management
- The ability to provide a public face for the organisation, putting across a clear agreed message in print, on the radio, on the TV or on the web.
