Just a few hours after Loganair reassured passengers its ticket booking outage had
recovered the major malfunction came back with a vengeance.
Loganair confirmed tonight (Wednesday) its reservation system is hit again by a significant
problem impeding people from buying flights. An update will follow at 7am on Thursday
morning.
For urgent on-the-day travel requirements for Thursday travellers are advised to
phone 0141 648 1869.
NHS passengers should liaise with local patient travel services. If already booked
in to travel, please proceed to the airport as normal.
The fault lies with the airline’s booking and departure control systems it is understood.
More than 50 airlines across the globe which use the same IT platform are suffering
similar outages. The system returned to functionality this morning - though it was
into the afternoon before bookings by air discount cards were accepted - prompting
Loganair to announce they were “fully operational.”
Thinking the nightmare was all over, the company even offered a 5% discount on flights
to all by way of apology of the hassle encountered.
But Loganair spoke too soon as the significant malfunction reappeared by 6pm, knocking
out its reservation systems.
Flights are not affected and will operate as normal but the serious IT problems means
travellers face difficulties trying to buy tickets and reserve seats. Check-in is
taking longer than usual as the process is being undertaken manually at the airport.
Travellers are urged to turn up for check-in in plenty of time to help ease delays.
Loganair desks at Western Isles and mainland airports are impacted.
Luke Farajallah, the company’s chief executive, said: “I would like to apologise
to our customers and thank them for their ongoing patience and understanding.
“We are experiencing unprecedented system issues, due to a global outage impacting
over 50 airlines worldwide, which includes Loganair.
“These issues have been ongoing since early on Wednesday 8th April and continue.
“We did see system recovery earlier today (Wednesday), however, as of 6pm this evening,
we are experiencing further outages.”
He added: “We appreciate this is a very frustrating situation and can assure our
customers that we are working throughout the night with our provider, to see the
systems return to full capacity, and we will make a further announcement as soon
as the system is available and confirmed as being stable.
“I would like to thank all our customers for their ongoing patience, understanding
and support. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank our amazing employees,
who continue to deliver exceptional customer service, despite the challenging situation.”
The issue impacts people attempting to make and manage bookings across the air operator’s
website, app and contact centre, and is also impacting check-in procedures.
Advice for people flying with Loganair on Thursday is to proceed straight through
security at the airport to the gate if they have managed to check-in online in between
the outages.
If they have not checked-in at home OR have baggage to check-in, proceed to Loganair
check-in desks with proof of your booking (electronic or printed).
Loganair said its check-in desks will remain open all day, for all flights.
