Trump wins US race

The son of a Lewis emigrant has become president of America.

Following an ugly and bitter campaign, Donald Trump won the race to become the 45th US president.

The Republican nominee is the American-born son of Mary Anne Macleod from Tong departed the Western Isles in 1930 in search of the American Dream.

Democrat Hillary Clinton conceded the election after state after state fell to the billionaire tycoon in a battle which proved the pollsters wrong.

Trump - who faces accusations of sexual misconduct by a number of women and shocked the world with his controversial, outspoken polices against immigrants - resonated with disillusioned, blue collar Americans who used their vote as a protest against the establishment.
