The trial of a former Western Isles councillor accused of sexually assaulting two women has been delayed.

A two day hearing over allegations facing Donald John Macrae of South Shawbost, Lewis, was due to commence Stornoway Sheriff Court this week.

Donald John Macrae denies all seven charges against him.

He is alleged to have sexually assaulted a female in Lewis eight years ago.

The 46-year-old is also charged with a sex assault on a different woman in Stornoway town centre last September.

In addition, it is claimed he made sexually explicit remarks to three women.

Macrae faces accusations of assaulting one person on the Pentland Road and the Barvas - Ness road one day last summer, and another alleged assault on a different individual at the Braighe in Point in 2011.

The ex-Labour councillor served the Harris and South Lochs ward from 2012 until last year.

The trial is now expected to take place at the end of October.
