The representative body for tourist operators in the Western Isles has appointed its first chief executive.
Rob McKinnon takes up the post with Outer Hebrides Tourism (OHT) in October.
His responsibilities include becoming a “tourism leader, a destination champion and an advocate for our business owners.”
Mr McKinnon is the present vice chairman of the organisation.
He will relocate from Edinburgh to the islands to carry out the role.
He owns a self catering property in Harris and is also a director of a new brewery planning to launch on the island next year.
OHT chairman Ian Fordham said the appointment of a chief executive is a “significant step forward” in the body’s development and for island tourism.
He added: “Rob will work closely with our board, our partners and business owners to shape and deliver our tourism strategy, grow the visitor economy, and support our 1000 tourism business members as they develop and grow.”
Mr McKinnon said: “Coming from a Harris family, this was an unmissable opportunity
for me because it gives me the opportunity to lead the tourism industry in the Outer
Hebrides in a way that reflects the islands’ history and my own upbringing.”
