A thief who broke into two Stornoway shops has been placed on a programme to help reduce his chances of reoffending.

Ozrik Carter smashed a window and stole a quantity of medication from KJ Macdonald’s chemist store in the early morning of 15 June.

Police officers caught him inside the premises.

The previous week, a glass pane was broken at Campbell’s filling station and the alarm was activated in the early hours.

CCTV footage showed Carter was in the area at the time.

The 24-year-old of the Acres, Island Road, Stornoway, previously pleaded guilty to both offences and admitted a third offence of assault.

At Stornoway Sheriff Court, Sheriff David Sutherland placed him on a structured deferred sentence programme and instructed him to re-appear in court in December.

Carter’s bail conditions means his is also banned from drinking alcohol and must obey a nightly curfew.
