Loganair has commenced its summer schedule which includes additional services from Stornoway to Southampton.

The one-stop flight touches down at Glasgow passengers boarding at Stornoway do not need to leave the aircraft at Glasgow, and can journey onwards to Southampton.

Luke Lovegrove, their airline’s chief commercial officer, said: “We have been inundated with requests for an improved service into the South of the UK from Stornoway and so to be able to facilitate a one stop connection down to Southampton is exciting.

Duncan Smith, Highlands and Islands Airports Limited’s (HIAL) General Manager West, said the service will improve connectivity to and from the island and offer the community more choice when it comes to travel.

“It will also provide additional options for those wishing to visit the Outer Hebrides and we expect the new service to be popular across the summer season.”

Meanwhile, Loganair’s flights on the key route between the Western Isles and Inverness are halted until the end of April impacting hundreds of medical appointments for islanders. The airline cancelled bookings and stopped the service during now ended industrial action.
