Stornoway RNLI Coxswain and volunteer crew members have received recognition in thanks of service for a 10-hour shout to the assistance of trawler Fladda Maid in a severe gale in March 2019.
Stornoway RNLI branch chair John J Maclennan presented crew members with their commendation letter from the RNLI specifically acknowledging their role in the rescue.
FV Fladda Maid was in difficulty with propulsion issues 20 miles north east of Stornoway. The vessel with six crew onboard was being battered by force nine winds and rough seas of up to six metres.
In these difficult conditions a tow was carefully established and the 20-metre fishing boat vessel was safely towed to Lochinver harbour.
RNLI director of lifesaving operations, John Payne, wrote to each lifeboat member involved in the rescue: “Your ongoing commitment to saving lives at sea is greatly appreciated and resulted in the safe recovery of the crew and the vessel. With my personal thanks.”
Stornoway RNLI crew recognised by the commendation letters were coxswain DI Murray, mechanic MJ Murray, crew members Connel Ferguson, Rodney Jamieson, Derek Morrison, Norman Matheson, and Ross Hall.
