Stornoway ferry service suspended due to main engine problems
13 November 2024
Engineers on Stornoway’s relief ferry were investigating a fault with the ship’s
main engine this (Wednesday) evening.
Problems emerged in the morning and the vessel was taken out of service after arrival
in Stornoway at lunchtime.
CalMac said MV Isle of Lewis - which is presently standing in for MV Loch Seaforth
- would not carry out the second sailing of the day.
Tomorrow morning’s (Thursday) timetable is also at risk of cancellation at short
notice.
Meanwhile, overhaul delays leave MV Loch Seaforth stuck in the Liverpool area while
the all-clear is awaited for her to head back north. The vessel departed the Cammell
Laird drydock unit just further up the Mersey and is now berthed at a wharf in Birkenhead
Docks.
MV Loch Seaforth was due to resume service today but CalMac said she has been affected
by a further delay. MV Isle of Lewis will remain redeployed on the Ullapool run until
Friday.
The Citylink bus will align with the current amended timetable to accommodate this.
MV Hebridean Isles (Heb Isles) remains in Stornoway and will operate a daytime freight
run until Friday afternoon, weather permitting. Only one of her ramps are working
so the ship is operating single ended. Vehicles may be required to reverse on and
off. MV Loch Seaforth is currently scheduled to resume the overnight freight service
on Sunday night.
