MV Loch Seaforth’s sailings are on hold following a technical problem.

The issue emerged on her sailing from Stornoway to Ullapool this afternoon.

Her engine control system is malfunctioning.

However, the cause of the fault was not immediately known and has to be determined before repairs can commence.

Onboard ship’s engineers are investigating the issue.

The vessel was forced to briefly delay berthing at her mainland destination, carrying out a figure-of-eight loop in Loch Broom before navigating to the confined area at the pier.

She docked at the wharf, going in stern-to as usual,  at 5.15pm, about half an hour later than scheduled.

CalMac said: “Due to an engine control issue with MV Loch Seaforth, the 4.40pm arrival into Ullapool is delayed.

“Once the vessel is berthed, investigations will be required.

“The 5.30pm departing Ullapool will therefore be delayed to allow for investigations.”

As a consequence, tonight’s freight sailings face disruption or possible cancellation.
