Hebrides News

The Stornoway ferry car deck is full over the next few days as a knock-on effect of a spell of bad weather.

New bookings for mainland bound vehicles are not receiving space on relief vessel MV Isle of Lewis until Monday. Some space is available on certain sailings from Ullapool.

A backlog of lories built up on both sides of the Minch after MV Hebridean Isles cancelling a number of freight runs due to rough seas this week.

The Lewis and Hebridean Isles are standing in while regular ferry, MV Loch Seaforth, is in drydock.

Lorries carrying supplies for Lewis and Harris were transferred on the Lewis, restricting the capacity for cars.

The route is also experiencing extra demand due to the autumn school holidays for Western Isles and Highland pupils.

Space is available from Thursday on sailings out of Ullapool but the no reservations are available on the outbound Stornoway run until the weekend.

MV Isle of Lewis operated all her scheduled sailings despite force eight winds.
