A large crowd turned out for the Stornoway’s Christmas lights switch-on ceremony last night.

A tall Christmas tree, decked in bright lights, has been sited in Perceval Square.

People wrapped up warm to ward off the chilly easterly wind though the stiff gusts resulted in the cancellation of the fireworks’ display.

Run-up events took place in the town hall with dancing displays. The Salvation Army provided the musical accompaniment for carol singing by primary school pupils.

Murdo Murray, chairman of Stornoway Port Authority, delivered the Christmas message.

The festive illuminations were lit following a parade from the town hall to Perceval Square.

Peat and Diesel preformed concerts before and after the ceremony.

The events were organised by Stornoway Amenity Trust with support from Western Isles Lottery.
