Storm Isha 'danger to life' amber warning for Western Isles
20 January 2024
Violent wind speeds up to 85mph are forecast for the Hebrides as Storm Isha hurtles towards Scotland.
The Western Isles is in the firing line for potentially the worst of the wild weather on Sunday evening and into Monday morning.
Injuries and danger to life from flying debris are possible with risks also from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts.
Deepening as it tracks from the Atlantic, Storm Isha is presently on course to hit the UK tomorrow.
After a generally windy day on Sunday, there is a chance that a spell of very strong winds could track towards the north east across much of Scotland on Sunday night.
Should this happen, then westerly winds could bring gusts of 65-75 mph, even inland, whilst gusts of 80-85 mph could occur very locally, most likely over parts of west and northern Scotland.
Hot on the heels of Storm Isha is another low pressure system on Tuesday bringing further strong winds amid a yellow ‘be aware’ warning.
