Strong winds in association with Storm Gerrit will lead to transport disruption on Wednesday highlights the Met Office which has released a yellow warning for the incoming adverse weather.
Strong easterly or southeasterly winds - and from the south later in the day - will affect the Western Isles and much of Scotland tomorrow.
Initially developing in Barra from the early hours of Wednesday, these strong winds will gradually spread further north up the Hebrides, bringing rain or sleet showers.
Wind speeds are expected to strengthen as they spread across the north of the warning area, with gusts reaching 60-70 mph widely and perhaps as much as 80 mph along some coasts.
Forecasters said there is a small chance that injuries could occur from flying debris, as well as some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs
Large waves and debris could be thrown onto beaches, coastal roads and properties.
Meanwhile, people journeying between ferry ports and mainland destinations also risk travel disruption from heavy rain and snow on Wednesday.
A band of heavy rain and hill snow will move northeast across parts of mainland Scotland over the day falling as snow on higher ground.
