SSEN spreads festive cheer in Lewis with £2,000 donation towards Christmas events
19 December 2024
SSEN Transmission’s Lewis Hub project has helped spread some festive cheer as it
donated £2,000 in support of a recent series of fun-filled events at Stornoway Town
Hall, including a visit from Santa.
The donation was made to the Hotspot Intervention Team, (HIT) a local project that
runs a range of activities for young people in the Stornoway area, including its
Christmas activities sessions that took place last week.
Among the activities were parties for under-5s and Primary 1-7s that featured a Santa’s
grotto and cupcake decorating, among many other activities. Meanwhile, a Christmas
rave for S1-4 pupils featuring local DJ Gordie Campbell included gaming stations
and a disco dome.
Local community development worker Kaleigh MacLeod said: "The HIT Project and partner
agencies would like to thank SSEN Transmission for its very generous donation.
“Together we managed to support, feed, entertain and provide gifts to over 300 young
people, and engage with over 150 parents and guardians over two days of events.
“All the activities were free thanks to the kind donations we received from SSEN
Transmission and elected members from Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, and we were delighted
to be able to support this number of young people and families at this time of year.”
Kevin Morrison is Community Liaison Manager for the Lewis Hub project, which comprises
the proposed construction of a new 400kV substation and HVDC converter station on
Arnish Moor, in support of national clean power and energy security targets.
He said: “We were delighted to make this donation to the Hotspot Intervention Team,
helping support its range of fun and festive activities for young people in the Stornoway
area.
“Our donation was put to good use to help buy presents for Santa’s grotto and it
was great to drop in and see how much fun everyone was having, thanks to the hard
work and dedication of HIT project members.
“The Lewis Hub project is committed to delivering a positive legacy, both through
the economic opportunities it will deliver and our ongoing support for local organisations
like the HIT project, that are carrying out valuable work in our communities.”
