A lower speed limit is proposed for the Gleann Dubh area in Newmarket.
The changes would see a 30mph limit extended along on a 600 metre stretch on the main road from the Gleann Dubh junction at the Blackwater River to the bend beyond the waterworks at the edge of Newmarket.
The housing schemes at Gleann Dubh and the new Bridge Cottages will also be included in the 30mph zone.
The council is seeking a traffic regulation order to make the proposed restriction.
A council report explained why a lower limit is required: “This location has seen significant increases in the number of domestic houses and businesses in the area.
“With the development of Gleann Dubh adjacent to the A857 the current speed limit is no longer considered appropriate.”
