The sum of £9508 has been donated to the Stornoway Monday Stroke Club in memory of Martin Cowan who died suddenly last August of a brain aneurysm.

Family and friends embarked on a series of fundraising activities including his son, Jacob, getting his head shaved. The seven-year-old was joined by Christine ‘CJ’ Campbell who organised the charity event.

Wielding the clippers were Martin’s daughter, Megan, 12, as well as Louise, CJ’s daughter.

Martin Cowan worked for a number of years in Stornoway at Tesco before moving to the Co-op and, despite being retail rivals, the two town supermarkets collaborated over the head shave event.

Organisers thanks all who donated and assisted in the fundraising.

The Monday Stroke Club said: “It truly has been a community coming together to support Martin's family showing what this island does best.

“Like many community groups we are ran by volunteers and entirely self funding, this money helps secure our future.”
