Travellers are advised to book ahead when travelling between Uist and Harris as ferry capacity has been severely reduced.

The smaller and slower MV Loch Bhrusda is operating as relief vessel on the route while the MV Loch Portain is undergoing her annual overhaul.

She is also one of the nosiest ferries in Cal Mac’s fleet.

Passenger capacity has been reduced to a maximum of 50 passengers - about a quarter of the Loch Portain.

Cal Mac said any groups intending to travel will need to call local offices at Lochmaddy or Tarbert to rebook.

Loch Portain is due back on the run on 25 February.

Low tides will affect sailing times on a number of days this month.
