Shellfish trawler salvaged from harbour seabed
30 December 2020
A sunken fishing boat has been removed from Stornoway inner harbour.
MFV Prevail went down on the night of 18 December. The 16-metre-long vessel was berthed by the fish mart on North Beach quay when the incident occurred.
Firefighters used two portable pumps in a bid to try and stem the intake of water but the vessel was listing heavily to port and eventually foundered.
The prawn trawler ended up on her side below the surface of the water.
Two cranes later raised the vessel, enabling her to be uprighted but sitting on the seabed with the sea covering her deck on the incoming tide.
On Tuesday, the cranes returned and the Prevail was slowly hoisted again, in stages, allowing trapped water to drain out.
She was towed to the slip at Goat Island.
The vessel sank at the quayside nearly two weeks ago
