A large scale search is underway in Stornoway for a missing 15-year-old boy.

Aleksander Benga was last seen about 4.45pm yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) in the Manor Park area of the town.

He is described as around 6ft 2ins in height and of slim build with short, light-brown hair.

When he was last seen he was wearing a bright blue raincoat, black hoodie, dark jeans or jogging trousers and black Nike trainers.

Stornoway coastguard helicopter has been carrying out overhead searches of the Lews Castle Grounds and surrounding area this morning.

Coastguard teams are also scouring the area on foot.

Sergeant Gary Muir from Stornoway Police Station said: “We are becoming increasingly concerned for Aleksander’s safety and wellbeing.

“Searches and enquiries are being carried out to trace him as soon as possible to ensure that he is safe and well.

“I would urge anyone who has seen him, or who has any information on his whereabouts to get in touch with police as soon as possible through 101 quoting reference 0409 of 16 November.

“I would also ask Aleksander, if he sees this appeal to please call us to let us know his location.”
