A classic sailing schooner is visiting the Western Isles.

SS Blue Clipper with about 18 guests and 10 crew onboard dropped anchor in Stornoway harbour.

The 38-metre-long ship plans a series of voyages around the Hebrides and west coast over the next five weeks from her base Ullapool.

Depending on sea conditions and importantly, wind speeds, her skipper hopes to take in locations such as the Summer Isles, Shiants, St Kilda, Barra, Mingulay and Skye as well as Lewis and Harris.

The present trip departed Loch Broom on Monday afternoon, stopping off at Isle Martin and arriving Stornoway at lunchtime on Wednesday.

Built in 1991 in Sweden, the three-masted tall ship has appeared in  various TV programmes and commercials.

Her owners base her in the Caribbean over the winter and in the UK or Scandanavia for summer. Next year she will be sailing out of Oban for a set of Inner Hebrides trips. The vessel is earmarked to offer more Western Isles voyages next August
