A section of the Rhenigidale Road in Harris has been washed away following severe thunderstorms last night.
The road collapsed after being battered by heavy flood water racing down a stream.
The route is impassable near the Maaruig junction. There is no alternative way in or out of the area. Repairs are likely to take days.
Meanwhile, the council plans to construct a temporary access as a contingency for local residents.
Storm damage was caused to a section of road in Springfield Road in Stornoway at the entrance to the health centre.
