Iconic Castlebay eatery Kismul Cafe has been put on the market with an asking price of £275,000.

The Bari family have run the small intimate family-run restaurant and cafe specialising in Indian and local seafood for nearly 20 years.

They plan to continue trading until a new owner takes over.

Revealing the decision to list the business for sale they said: “After 18 years behind the wheel, our shift is coming to an end. Harris and the family have decided to put the cafe on the market and let someone else take on this amazing little restaurant down in Castlebay.

“We can't begin to describe how big a decision this has been, and what an  incredible experience we’ve had over the last two decades, opening the cafe in 2004, and turning it into the well known and loved restaurant it is today.

“It has been at the centre of our family's day to day lives from the moment we took it on, and life will be very different without it. But all good things must come to an end.”

The family said they don’t plan to move far and might “even still be here next season if the right person doesn't arrive right away.

“But the decision has been made, and we look forward to hearing from anyone interested in having the opportunity to serve this wee community and start their own new chapter down on Main Street.”

Cafe Kisimul was founded by husband and wife team Rohail and Pauline Bari.

After moving to Vatersay in 2002 to escape the frantic pace of life in Glasgow, they found more and more interest in their cooking and eventually ran a curry night in the village hall with the local Vatersay Boys playing the tunes for the night.

It was a great success and they decided to try and pursue cooking as a new family venture. Cafe Kisimul (formerly the Kisimul Galley) came up for sale and the rest is history.

The restaurant was a finalist for the UK-wide Tiffin Cup in 2010 competition held in the Houses of Parliament.
