Engine problems has caused the MS Queen Elizabeth to cancel her planned visit to Stornoway.

Due to her size, Cunard’s flagship liner was to anchor outside Arnish with passengers tendered into port.

A Stornoway Port Authority statement said: “Unfortunately, Cunard’s luxury liner, the Queen Elizabeth, is having some engine problems and cancelled Stornoway’s call on Tuesday.”

Cunard said the cruise ship plans to visit Stornoway in September 2019.

The eight year old ship requires engine repairs before starting her next scheduled cruise and is cutting short her present trip.

The Bermuda-flagged vessel is two thirds though a 15 day trip to Norway and Iceland.

The majority of her 2,000 passengers onboard are British. She also carries over 1,000 crew members.

Stornoway and Belfast are now replaced by Killibegs on her homeward bound itinerary.

The £350 million vessel departed Reykjavík in Iceland today (Sun) and is heading to Ireland, her last port before docking in Southampton.

With a gross tonnage of 90,900 tonnes, Queen Elizabeth is the second largest ship to sail in Cunard's fleet.
