Uist Asco Ltd, Scotland’s premium seaweed processor, is located on the isle of North
Uist in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. Uist Asco has been involved in the production
of quality dried seaweed since 2012. Uist Asco provides products for the alginate,
agriculture, horticulture, and aquaculture industries. Uist Asco has a proud history
of success with its dedicated staff and strong community ties.
Uist Asco is currently seeking a seasoned, dedicated and experienced Production Manager
to oversee production responsibilities. This will be a rewarding role for a candidate
eager to remain in production while applying sound leadership and management to a
seasoned production staff. To be successful, you need to carry equal parts hands-on
management, production/factory experience balanced with sound business acumen in
order to meet the established KPI’s of the role and facility. A demonstrated background
in end-to-end production and leadership is vital to elevate you as a strong candidate
for this role.

The Production Manager is responsible for managing most aspects of the Uist ASCO
operation including budgeting, planning, directing and operational & financial forecasting
to ensure a safe, efficient and quality operation. The Production Manager will analyse,
evaluate and implement processes, equipment, personnel and training requirements
assuring all operating parameters are achieved within defined cost.
The Production Manager reports to the Scottish Project Manager and the VP of Global
Manufacturing, Engineering and Lean, and will work closely with other Plant Managers,
Safety & Environmental Manager, Engineering, Finance, R&D, Sales, Marketing, Production
planning, Service excellence and Quality Assurance Departments. The production manager
will lead and manage production and maintenance personnel.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provide leadership for the successful operation of the Uist ASCO facility.
- Ensure plant meets and exceeds the government and company safety and environmental
standards, regulations and policies.
- Ensure all the positions are filled on a timely basis to ensure business continuity.
- Manage personnel issues in the plant to resolve issues and provide leadership to
motivate people, foster teamwork and promote an awareness of health & safety and
quality in all aspects of the operation.
- Achieve budgeted production, yield and cost of production on a consistent basis.
- Closely monitor, control and maintain plant key performance indicators.
- Work with Resource management and plant to manage quality of incoming raw material.
- Work with Operations, Quality, and engineering, science and Lean team to develop
SOP and standard work for all the areas of operations.
- Develop and execute training and cross training for all the operations personnel.
- Ensure preventive maintenance program is implemented to improve the reliability of
the equipment.
- Ensure QA program and sanitation program is developed and implemented.
- Work with the Environmental Health and Safety Manager to ensure all members of the
manufacturing team work within the safety policies, and safe work procedures; to
provide a safe workplace for our employees.
- Maintain and support a superior safety and housekeeping program
- Ensure maintenance of buildings, grounds and equipment are carried out in a timely,
safe and efficient manner.
- Conduct performance appraisals and provide coaching and guidance to all operations
employees.
- Encourage and promote operating in a continuous improvement environment.
- Work with research and development personnel to develop new product strategies.
- Work with purchasing department to develop and improve supplier relationships.
- Assist with public relations to maintain the appropriate corporate image within the
local community.
- Respond to after hours, and weekend emergency calls, from the production plant
- Support the company’s vision and policies regarding safety and health, corporate
culture and the Progressive Excellence Program by displaying the appropriate behaviors
and leadership toward meeting the company’s objectives in these areas.
Requirements
- University degree in engineering, science or business administration.
- Min 2 years of experience in Plant/Operations management
- Competency in MS office and business software applications
