Ardseileach has received a positive report from the Care Inspectorate following an inspection carried out in February.

The care home in Stornoway can accommodate up to 12 people with learning disabilities including respite or emergency care and support.

The inspection report highlights people were comfortable and enjoyed living in Ardseileach where the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming.

People experienced respect at the care home. Staff were attentive to people's wishes and wellbeing, and understood they were supporting people to help them make their own choices and decisions, whenever possible.

Family members said they found staff and management to be welcoming and supportive. Communication was good, they were kept informed of any important events or information they needed to know. Staff came across as having people's interests and wishes at the forefront of their minds. People can trust the service is responsive to their needs and wishes.

People had active weeks and that could involve doings things within the care home or out and about attending events, going for lunch or visiting family for example so they got the most out of their days and weeks.

The service knew what was important to people, their likes and dislikes and made sure the support provided matched. People's health and wellbeing was supported well. Staff noticed changes to a person as they had got to know them.  

The inspector ranks the support for people's wellbeing as being ‘good’ and The report asks for more consistent improved recording and checks in this area.

The staff team was considered to be ‘very good’ which indicates major strengths in most areas of staff performance with only a few areas to improve in.

The workforce are motivated to provide a high standard of care and support to people, promoting people's independence and abilities whenever suitable.

The inspector praised staff for being ‘insightful’ who got on well with the residents, knew the balance between promoting choice and wishes and providing support which helped people to keep safe, well and be happy.

People were comfortable with and liked the staff members. Family members also reported favourably on staff and their manner.

The care home environment was found to be at a high standard with daily cleaning routines, dealing with infection risks with suitable supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE) and disinfection solutions.

A Comhairle spokesperson said: “This report demonstrates the excellent work of Ardseileach’s leadership team in implementing service improvements and the fantastic work of the staff team in the day-to-day care of residents.

“In addition to the findings of this report, it is hugely positive that Ardseileach has now recruited to all vacant roles eliminating the services reliance on agency workers.”
