Western Isles flights to and from Glasgow are amongst many air services delayed at Glasgow Airport due to a police incident.

The airport's central search area is closed with reports of a “suspicious package” being discovered before 6am.

A Royal Navy bomb disposal team is at the scene.  The fire service was also summoned.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police and emergency services are currently in attendance at an ongoing incident at Glasgow Airport.”

Police earlier said the terminal building was not evacuated but has been closed as a precaution.

However, at 8.45am passengers were evacuated to the car park area.

They added: “At approximately 6am, Police Scotland attended the airport due to concern around an item in a passenger’s bag in the central search area.

Passengers arriving at the airport for departing flights will face delays said the airport.

Passengers booked on this morning’s Benbecula services have had their trip cancelled.

The Stornoway flight is delayed with no estimated time given for departure.
