Passenger capacity has been cut on ferry sailings for Lochmaddy and Tarbert for safety reasons.

Restricted traveller limits were introduced this morning for a temporary period because the fast rescue boat facility on board MV Hebrides is not working.

The fault held up the vessel in Uig, Skye, this morning.

Her first sailing of the day was delayed by 90 minutes until the interim solution of cutting numbers was applied. Sailings throughout the day will be running late as a consequence.

CalMac said: “Engineers are continuing to investigate a technical issue with MV Hebrides' fast rescue craft.

“To allow the vessel to return to service, passenger capacity has been reduced.”
