Pupils at Tong Primary School in Lewis have received new play equipment aimed at encouraging them to have fun outside.
As work nears completion on a £9.3m project to upgrade the water network serving communities north of Stornoway, Scottish Water and alliance partner Caledonia Water Alliance (CWA) gifted the pupils two mud kitchens and a playhouse.
They also donated some hi-viz vests.
The project, which started over a year ago sees 13 miles of new water main pipes being installed between Marybank and North Tolsta.
It also involves a new pumping station at Back and a new water storage tank at North Tolsta.
The work, being carried out on Scottish Water’s behalf by Caledonia Water Alliance and island contractor, Macaulay Askernish, is expected to be complete by the summer.
Lee Biddulph, project manager, said: “We were delighted to be able to make this small contribution to Tong Primary School as we enter the final stages of this major water upgrade project for the communities to the north of Stornoway.
“It is important for us to engage positively with the communities that we work in and hopefully the mud kitchen and playhouse are things the pupils will be able to enjoy for years to come.”
