Stornoway air services risk disruption by airport navigational equipment problem
27 June 2024
Disruption warnings that technical difficulties may affect flight schedules at Stornoway
Airport have been issued by Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (Hial) which operate
commercial airfields in the north of Scotland.
Today’s Edinburgh flight was cancelled while the evening air service to and from
Glasgow did not operate.
A problem with a navigational aid at the airport is being investigated.
A Hial spokesman said: “We are working to resolve a technical issue with the ground
base navigational equipment at Stornoway Airport.
"We advise passengers to contact their airlines for the latest flight information
and we will provide updates to the ongoing situation as they become available.”
Engineers have been called as efforts were made to fix the problem with navigational
equipment.
Stornoway Airport said: “Due to technical issues beyond our control, flight operations
are currently affected and we advise all passengers to contact their airline for
the latest information.”
