North Uist’s designated relief ferry, MV Clansman, is undergoing additional repairs instead of picking up the Lochmaddy service.
MV Hebrides has to remain on station until she is fixed as no other CalMac vessel is readily available to cover.
She should have departed at the weekend for a three week schedule of upgrades in the Cammell Laird dry dock on the River Mersey.
But the Clansman has suffered technical problems in the starboard engine since her annual overhaul last month. In recent days she was laid up in Oban and has now returned to a service berth at King George IV quay in Glasgow for repair work.
