CalMac has advised the South Uist community of the latest disruption to their ferry service.

Oban - Lochboisdale sailings are cancelled on Mondays for the next three weeks at least though the relief vessel will operate the one-way journey route on Tuesdays.

CalMac acknowledged “that this is another change to the service and that our communities have already experienced disruption in the recent months due to the overhaul schedule and the severe weather disruption experience in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

“I am aware of the impact this will cause to our communities and I am very sorry for the issues this will cause.”

MV Hebridean Isles is standing in for Lochboisdale sailings since regular vessel, MV Lord of the Isles (Loti) was taken away to cover sailings for Coll, Tiree and Colonsay while their vessel, MV Clansman, undergoes her annual maintenance.

The Loti is CalMac’s go-to vessel to provide relief lifeline services for Coll and Tiree in the prevailing circumstances due to shortages and berthing concerns with other vessels in the fleet.

But Colonsay was previously told its Monday’s sailings were cancelled because the Loti could not fit in a run to the island due to daylight restrictions and the early winter sunset in January.

CalMac will now deploy the Heb Isles between Oban and Colonsay on 8, 15, 22 January which prevents her from operating a sailing from the mainland to Uist on these dates.

MV Hebridean Isles will depart Lochboisdale on the Monday mornings but will not return to Lochboisdale as timetabled. The Oban to South Uist run is cancelled for the next three Mondays as a result .

Instead, after discharging Uist traffic in Oban she will operate a return sailing to Colonsay and berth overnight in Oban. The vessel will not come back to Lochboisdale until Tuesday afternoon.
