The Met Office has issued a weather warning of snow and ice for most of the Western Isles.

Icy patches and snow are possible, and may lead to hazardous conditions Tuesday evening and overnight into Wednesday morning.

There is the chance of widespread overnight frosts for much of the UK in the coming days and a risk of snow to northern Scotland.

The Met Office said: “With the UK sitting in cold air from northern Scandinavia the weather is turning much colder for the rest of this week and the start of next with daytime temperatures struggling to get above single figures and overnight temperatures staying below freezing for much of the country.

“Wintry showers will lead to ice forming on untreated surfaces during Tuesday evening and overnight into Wednesday morning.

“Snow will begin to accumulate, especially away from windward coasts, with 1-3cm possible.

“Higher routes of northeast Scotland may see up to 5cm of snow accumulate.”
