Stornoway passengers flying to and from the mainland yesterday (Sunday) afternoon
had their travel plans disrupted when a IT fault hit an air traffic control system.
Travellers were stranded as Loganair’s flights between the capital and Lewis were
grounded at the last minute as a result.
The Stornoway - Inverness service was also cancelled, understood to be because the
plane stuck in Edinburgh had been scheduled to fly from Lewis to the Highlands and
return.
The Glasgow service was put off as well yesterday.
Loganair said all Isle of Lewis flights impacted yesterday were a result of the Edinburgh
air traffic control outage.
Edinburgh Airport said no flights took off or landed during the IT disruption period.
Engineers worked to resolve the issue.
The IT failure was repaired around 6.30pm but by that time it wwas too late to proceed
with the Stornoway flight.
