The comhairle is set to sell the former Lochmaddy School to North Uist Development Company (NUDC) for £6,000 plus conveyancing expenses.

Final approval for the transfer is expected to be approved by the full council this week.

NUDC have plans to upgrade the building for community use.

Development proposals have included bunkhouse accommodation for tourists,  an environmental centre, and a teaching and learning space.

The primary school has lain empty since June 2016 when it - along with Carinish and Paible, closed and pupils transferred to the new-build Sgoil Uibhist A Tuath.
