Norgrove family set up charity in daughter’s memory 22/10/10
A charity to help Afghan women to improve their lives is being established in memory of Linda Norgrove, the Lewis hostage killed in a bid to rescue her from kidnappers.
Ms Norgrove will be buried in Uig on Tuesday following a service in the Uig Community Centre in Timsgarry at 12 noon.
A Norgrove family spokesperson said: “It will be a humanist ceremony followed by a traditional Lewis funeral procession and an internment at Ardroil cemetery.
“Friends and everyone who knows the family will be welcome.”
The Norgrove family have
set up a charitable foundation which will continue the work that Linda was doing
in Afghanistan.
It is called the Linda Norgrove Foundation and will fund women and family orientated schemes such as scholarships for Afghan women to attend universities, children's orphanages, specific girls schools etc.
The family request that no flowers be sent but that people donate money to this cause instead, but only if they wish to. There is no obligation.
There will be a collection bucket at the door and a website will go online next week.
