Leverburgh lifeboat recovered the body of a sea angler following a search for a missing man in Skye.

A member of the public raised the alarm after observing an unmanned fishing boat in Loch Dunvegan on Saturday.

Emergency services including coastguard teams, RNLI lifeboats and Stornoway coastguard helicopter carried out searches in the immediate area.

A 68-year-old male was found near the fishing boat but, despite resuscitation efforts, was later confirmed deceased.

A Leverburgh RNLI spokesperson said: “We are all deeply saddened by the outcome, despite everyone’s best efforts.

“This was a multi-agency shout and all involved are to be commended.

“We are thinking of everybody affected at this sad time; the family, friends, and community who are in mourning.”

Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
