Lifeboat aids stricken yacht
22 July 2021
Barra lifeboat went to the aid of a yacht which struck a reef off Uist today (Thursday).
The leisure craft grounded on a submerged rock at Heisker - also known as the Monarch Isles - off the west coast of North Uist.
No water was coming in and the stricken vessel planned to wait for the rising tide to refloat.
The crew of a nearby boat observed the incident and relayed an alert to coastguards.
Barra lifeboat launched at 11am and stood by the yacht for several hours until it was able to clear the hazard.
