A comedy play about a Gaelic version of the Royal family featuring Uilleam and Katag (Prince William and Kate) took the star prize at this year’s Lewis Provincial Mòd.

Pupils from Stornoway Primary had the audience in stitches at the packed-out prizewinners’ concert.

Many hundreds of youngsters from across Lewis took part in competitions over the week.

Now in its 86th year the local mòd is a massive volunteer effort which importantly helps traditional Gaelic songs to survive while allowing children to explore their own culture and provides a platform to showcase their talents, said Dollag Macleod secretary of the event.

Singing and music is a big focus but drama plays a big part which is “all inclusive and encourages youngsters who are not necessarily musically inclined,” she added.

Fellow organiser Peigi Maclennan was impressed with the large number and high standard of entries, highlighting many competitors are going on to compete at the Royal National Mod in Glasgow this autumn.

Talia Graham of the Nicolson Institute won the silver pendant.

The Lews Castle School cup for secondary pupil fiddle playing was awarded to Maddy Kingston Miles.

Ellie Cameron of Pairc School won the BBC prize in memory of Diane Morrison for solo singing.
