The Lewis and Harris Football Association (LHFA) has today confirmed a high profile
friendly with Highland League outfit, Brora Rangers.
The match is scheduled to take place at Goathill pitch in Stornoway on Saturday 13th
July. Kick-off is at 6pm.
LHFA chairman, Calum Macleod, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Brora Rangers
to the islands once again for a fixture against the best that we have to offer in
Lewis and Harris.
“We rely heavily on the support of our sponsors and I’d like to take this opportunity
to particularly thank Duncan Mackay & Sons, RMK Financial and Campbell’s Filling
Station for their significant financial support towards this game which is very much
appreciated.
“I’d also like to thanks Alda Maclennan for his kind offer of a bus to help with
travel arrangements.”
Steve Mackay, manager of Brora Rangers, is looking forward to the game.
He said: “I’m delighted to be taking Brora Rangers over to Stornoway to play against
a Lewis & Harris Select and I would like to thank the Lewis & Harris Football Association
for their help in making it happen.
“As a club, we have always had a strong affiliation with the island having taken
Martin Maclean over to the mainland to star for Brora over a 10 year period and write
his name in the history books by scoring the winner against Hearts in the Scottish
Cup in 2020.
“I am sure it will be a competitive game and a really good test for us as we prepare
for the Highland League kick off on 27th July.”
The new Lewis & Harris Select manager, Colin George Morrison, said: “We are really
excited by the opportunity to play quality Highland League opposition and have begun
the process of selecting a squad.
“A number of young players have a made a real impact in the early stages of the Lewis
and Harris season, so we are hopeful that they - along with some of the more experienced
boys - will give us a good blend and balance heading into this fixture.
“There’s no doubt that Brora will present us with a really big challenge but it’s
one which we are keen to embrace and hopefully deliver a good performance.”
Colin George will be assisted in the running of the Lewis & Harris Select by Robert
Shirkie, Scott Graham and Peter Mackenzie.
