Police Scotland is appealing for information following car crash on Lewis.

A 78-year-old man - who was a passenger in the vehicle - is in a critical condition following the incident at the waterworks in Newmarket, two miles outside Stornoway.

He was taken to Western Isles Hospital with serious injuries and then transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

The driver, a 52-year-old woman, was also taken to the Stornoway hospital and released after receiving treatment.

Road policing officer Neil MacDonald said: “Our enquiries into the cause of this crash are ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time to get in touch.

“In particular we are keen to speak to anyone who saw the car or who may have dash-cam footage that can help with our investigation.

“If you can assist please contact us on 101, quoting incident number 3727 of Wednesday, 28 July, 2021.”
